[Blog] 5 New Year's Resolutions for Housing Sector Success in 2017
What a year 2016 was!
The start of a new year is a good time to reflect and plan how you want your business to transform. Do you want to increase growth and success in the coming year? 2017 will see voluntary right to buy further piloted, future changes to universal credit, a new regulatory approach, the development of a plan for Brexit which could affect business in the UK and a further 1% rent reduction enforced.
These resolutions are designed to help you to grow in a challenging environment, address work-life balance and productivity and develop your skill set.
Here are our top #UKHousing New Year’s Resolutions for 2017:
Set some key business goals
Developing and writing a set of measurable business goals can have a real impact on your business.
Chances are that in 2016 you wrote down some goals, developed a plan and achieved most (if not all) of those goals, So well done! You achieved transformation in a challenging environment.
Write some challenging but achievable goals that will stretch you and your business over the next 12 months. Then tell somebody about your goals. Whether that be your line manager, your team or even your CEO. They will have some great ideas.
If any of your goals relate to achieving efficiency, value for money or compliance we may be able to help. Why not claim a free business health check to help kick start your 2017?
Attend more industry events
You probably know that we are big advocates of events. We host dozens each year and ensure that we attend the best events which the housing sector has to offer.
If you’re tired of the same old major events, why not attend our Ideas Lab event? Whether you’re there for thought provoking debate, workshops or discussions, the Service Matters’ Ideas Lab is the perfect platform to generate innovative solutions for your business.
Join a new business or networking group
There’s nothing like talking to other professionals for sparking new ideas, refining old ones, and making contacts. Whether it’s a group designed for networking or one dedicated to a particular challenge. Making the effort to be part of a group will revitalise you and your business.

Find balance and increase productivity
We all know about the curse of the inbox. We’ve even heard about a certain high profile sector Tweeter having over 11,000 emails in their inbox.
Work-life balance is a term that is often thrown around these days. We recommend that you put time in your diary to create a solid plan on how to correct any imbalance. A good way is to schedule regular time to “recharge” and stick to that commitment. Use this time to work on the things you love. If you won’t invest in your own work-life balance, who will?
We have also developed a new training session on how to conduct productive Lean meetings. This is a useful session packed with tips and tools to ensure your meetings have a purpose and generate real value.
